Ingredients
For aloo tikkis:
- 3 medium potatoes, boiled and mashed
- 2 tbsp cornflour or bread crumbs
- ½ tsp red chili powder
- ½ tsp cumin powder
- Salt to taste
- Oil for shallow frying
For baskets (optional shortcut: use readymade puri baskets):
- 2 large potatoes, thinly sliced into strips
- Oil for deep frying
- Salt
Chaat toppings:
- 1 cup boiled chickpeas (or chana chaat mix)
- ½ cup yogurt, whisked
- 2 tbsp green chutney
- 2 tbsp tamarind chutney
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 tomato, chopped
- Chaat masala
- Roasted cumin powder
- Red chili powder
- Sev (crispy noodles)
- Fresh coriander leaves
Instructions
1. Make the baskets (optional)
- Arrange potato strips in a bowl or mold shape.
- Deep fry until golden and crispy.
- Remove and let them hold basket shape.
2. Prepare aloo tikkis
- Mix mashed potatoes with spices and cornflour.
- Shape into small flat patties.
- Shallow fry until golden and crispy on both sides.
3. Assemble chaat
- Place aloo tikki inside each basket.
- Add boiled chickpeas on top.
- Drizzle yogurt, green chutney, and tamarind chutney.
- Sprinkle onions, tomatoes, chaat masala, cumin powder, and chili powder.
- Top with sev and fresh coriander.
