A Kolkata Kathi Roll is a popular street food wrap made with a soft paratha stuffed with spiced skewered kebabs or paneer, onions, chutneys, and a squeeze of lemon. It’s crispy, juicy, and packed with bold Indian flavors—perfect as a quick meal on the go.

Ingredients

For the filling (paneer version):

  • 250 g paneer (or chicken), sliced or cubes
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 capsicum, sliced
  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

For the wrap:

  • 4 parathas (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • Green chutney (mint-coriander)
  • Tomato ketchup or tamarind chutney
  • Lemon wedges
  • Chaat masala (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan and sauté ginger-garlic paste.
  2. Add onions and capsicum, cook for 2–3 minutes until slightly soft.
  3. Add spices and salt, mix well.
  4. Add paneer (or chicken) and cook until coated and slightly golden.
  5. Finish with lemon juice and set aside.
  6. Heat a paratha on a pan until golden and soft.
  7. Spread green chutney and a little ketchup on the paratha.
  8. Add filling in the center, top with raw onions and chaat masala.
  9. Roll tightly into a wrap and secure with foil if needed.
