Matar Paneer is a classic North Indian curry made with soft paneer cubes and green peas cooked in a rich, spiced tomato-onion gravy. It’s creamy, mildly spicy, and commonly served with roti, naan, or rice.

Ingredients

  • 200 g paneer, cubed
  • 1 cup green peas (fresh or frozen)
  • 2 tbsp oil or ghee
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 onion, finely chopped or blended
  • 2–3 tomatoes, pureed
  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 green chili, chopped (optional)
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • ½ tsp garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ cup water (adjust as needed)
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat oil or ghee in a pan and add cumin seeds. Let them splutter.
  2. Add onions and sauté until golden brown.
  3. Stir in ginger-garlic paste and green chili, cook for 1 minute.
  4. Add tomato puree and cook until oil separates.
  5. Mix in turmeric, chili powder, coriander powder, and salt.
  6. Add green peas and cook for 3–4 minutes.
  7. Pour in water and simmer for 5–7 minutes until peas are soft.
  8. Add paneer cubes and gently mix. Cook for 2–3 minutes.
  9. Finish with garam masala and fresh coriander.
