Restaurant-quality fish in just 15 minutes! 🐟🥢 This Chinese Steamed Fish is light, healthy, and bursting with flavor. Steamed with fresh ginger and topped with spring onions and a savory soy sauce dressing, it's a classic Cantonese dish that's simple enough for weeknights and elegant enough for special occasions.

Ingredients:

  • 1 whole fish (sea bass, tilapia, or snapper), cleaned
  • 2-inch piece ginger, julienned
  • 3 spring onions, sliced into thin strips
  • 2 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp hot vegetable oil
  • Fresh coriander for garnish (optional)

Method:

  1. Pat the fish dry and make a few shallow cuts on both sides.
  2. Place half of the ginger inside the fish and the remaining ginger on top.
  3. Arrange the fish on a heatproof plate suitable for steaming.
  4. Steam over boiling water for 10–15 minutes, depending on the size of the fish.
  5. Carefully remove any excess liquid from the plate.
  6. Scatter the spring onions over the fish.
  7. Drizzle soy sauce and sesame oil evenly over the fish.
  8. Heat the vegetable oil until very hot and carefully pour it over the spring onions and fish.
  9. Garnish with coriander and serve immediately with steamed rice.
