Delicate, flavorful, and beautifully simple! 🐟🥢 Chinese Steamed Sea Bass is a classic Cantonese favorite featuring tender fish steamed with fresh ginger and spring onions, then finished with a savory soy sauce dressing. A healthy and elegant dish that's perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients:

  • 1 whole sea bass (about 700–900g), cleaned
  • 2-inch piece ginger, julienned
  • 4 spring onions, sliced into thin strips
  • 2 tbsp light soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp hot vegetable oil
  • Fresh coriander for garnish (optional)

Method:

  1. Clean and pat dry the sea bass. Make 2–3 shallow slashes on each side of the fish.
  2. Place half of the ginger inside the fish cavity and the remaining ginger on top.
  3. Arrange the fish on a heatproof plate suitable for steaming.
  4. Steam over boiling water for 8–12 minutes, depending on the size of the fish, until fully cooked.
  5. Carefully remove any excess liquid from the plate.
  6. Scatter the spring onions over the fish.
  7. Mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sesame oil, then pour over the fish.
  8. Heat the vegetable oil until very hot and carefully pour it over the spring onions and fish to release their aroma.
  9. Garnish with fresh coriander and serve immediately with steamed rice.
